Join Friends of Bedford Cemeteries July 19

Friday, July 18, 2014

To The Editor:

Looking for something to do that’s interesting and unusual yet beneficial to the community?

If you’re over the age of 13, consider joining the Friends of Bedford Cemeteries (go to www.bedfordcemeteries.org and follow the link at left).

Join us on July 19 at Joppa Hill Cemetery for a free gravestone cleaning outing. We’ll provide cleaning instructions, equipment, D2 cleaning solution and drinking water. We’ll also provide information about some of the fascinating folks buried there.

The session will begin at 10:30 and wind up around
2 p.m. Remember to wear long pants and sturdy shoes as the ground there is uneven. Bring a hat, bug spray, sunscreen and an empty plastic spray bottle if you have one.

Since we’ll be scrubbing a century or more of dust, lichen and grime from the stones, people with allergies, health or breathing problems should not attend. No need to sign up in advance, just show up and join the fun.

JULIE SCHAPPALS

President, Friends of Town of Bedford Cemeteries
