Article inappropriate for younger audience
Thursday, January 28, 2010
To The Editor:
As parents, my wife and I were extremely disappointed and embarrassed to encounter your front page headline – “Strip Club Has Changed Hands” – in the Jan. 22 edition.
We have three inquisitive school-aged children – 11, 9 and 6 – and never expected to see such a salacious headline gracing your front pages. While we acknowledge that it qualifies as news, perhaps a gentler headline or a more obscure placement would have been more appropriate.
We encourage our children to read the newspaper to learn of local and current events, search for the names of friends or classmates in the sports pages and to learn more about our town.
We will think twice before leaving the paper out in our home without perusing it first for articles such as this one.
We hope that you will consider the age and maturity of ALL your readers before including a headline or article of this type in the future.
