Had enough with tax increases

Friday, February 5, 2010

To the Editor:

We are thoroughly disgusted with the non-stop tax increases impacting the Bedford residents. I’ve never seen such a horror show of indifference toward the senior citizens, those on fixed wages, and the unemployed. More and more dollars are funneled into a never-ending stream of projects, good causes and sacred cows. There’s no end in sight! If they’re doing this during the bad times, what will they do in the future?

If you really want to get upset, turn on Bedford TV and watch the budget meetings. It was proof positive that they negotiated raises for employees in full view of the worst recession since the Great Depression. Their idea of success was working hard to present you with yet another tax increase, just smaller than what it should have been.

Why can’t the town of Bedford experience what the taxpayers are experiencing? Layoffs, reductions in force, belt tightening, losing their homes, and losing their jobs?

It’s time to put an end to this outright abuse of our pocketbooks by those who just don’t comprehend what’s going on. I strongly recommend that you show up at the Deliberative Session on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. in the high school theater and say “no” enough times until they get the message. Enough is enough!
