Vote no on proposed zoning amendment No. 1

Thursday, March 4, 2010

To the Editor:

I am very concerned about proposed zoning amendment No. 1 that we will be voting on this coming Tuesday, March 9. We must vote no to defeat this proposed amendment, as it would take away our rights as citizens to decide upon proposed changes to our zoning.

Zoning is very important because people depend upon it. When people choose to live in a residential neighborhood, they rely upon the zoning to be assured that their neighborhoods will remain that way. Right now, it will stay that way barring a townwide vote to change the zoning.

However, if proposed zoning amendment No. 1 passes, this will all be changed, and in the future, changes in zoning will be made by a majority vote of the Town Council (just four votes making up the majority). This could lead to decisions that are unjust and unfair to our residents.

Please leave zoning changes in the future up to the majority of the residents – not up to four members of the Town Council. Let our voices be heard by voting no to proposed zoning amendment No. 1.
