Who is running and how to get involved in local elections

BEDFORD – Voters have four races to focus on when heading to the polls in March.

The elected positions of School Board member, School District moderator, library trustee and town moderator had more candidates file than there are seats available.

With current Town Councilor Michael Scanlon leaving his seat open to Jefferson Road’s Jim Scanlon, he will oppose Ryk Bullock for the positions of town and School District moderator.

The 2010 Declaration of Candidacy candidates include:

School Board (1 seat):

Scott Earnshaw of Juniper Drive.

Bill Foote of Pheasant Run.

School District moderator (1 seat):

Ryk Bullock of Meetinghouse Road.

Michael J. Scanlon of Caron Road.

Town moderator (1 Seat):

Ryk Bullock of Meetinghouse Road.

Michael J. Scanlon of Caron Road.

Library trustee (1 seat):

Walter J. Gallo of Wallace Road.

Edward P. Moran of Ministerial Drive.

Town Council (2 seats):

Mike Izbicki of Eagle Drive.

Jim Scanlon of Jefferson Road.

School District treasurer:

Brenda Bernard, of Palomino Lane.

School District Clerk:

Lori Radke, of McAfee Farm Road.

Trustee of the Trust Funds:

Mark Peicker of Green Meadow Lane.

Supervisor of the Checklist:

Nancy Brockway of Maiden Lane.

Although the elected position deadline passed last Friday, it’s not too late for people still interested in getting involved with the town. There are several vacancies with a number of boards, commissions and committees.

The following have terms that expire this year:

•Bedford Community Television panel (4).

•Cemetery trustees (1).

•Conservation Commission (3).

•Highway Safety Committee (2).

•Historic District Commission (3).

•Park and Recreation Commission (3).

•Planning Board (2).

•Water and Sewer Advisory Committee (1).

•Zoning Board of Adjustment (2).

•Southern New Hampshire Planning Commission (1).

•Energy Commission (1).

•Bedford Village Common Development Committee (1).

•Business Resource Group (6).

•Town treasurer.

•Assistant treasurer.

Anyone interested in a vacant board, commission or committee position should submit a letter of interest and/or an application for appointment to the Bedford Town Manager’s Office, Attention: Town Council, 24 N. Amherst Road, Bedford, NH 03110.

Applications, which can be picked up at the town offices or downloaded from the town’s Web site at www.bedfordnh.org, can also be e-mailed to dboufford@ bedfordnh.org.

The deadline is March 1, with interviews and appointments expected to be completed the same month.
