BEDFORD – Salem High School’s principal has been named the finalist in the search for Bedford’s open position.

William Hagen was selected by the Bedford High School Principal Search Committee as one of two finalists. The other finalist withdrew from consideration.

Last year, Bedford Principal Stephen Donovan received a court summons for drinking and driving. He resigned from the job Aug. 27 – the second day of school – and Assistant Principal Bob Jozokos was named interim principal for the year.

A search committee began accepting applications for a new principal months ago. The search was narrowed from more than 20 applicants to five semifinalists before the final two were selected.

Hagen was the assistant principal of Iber Gove Holmes Middle School in Raymond from 1992-94, assistant principal of Hudson Memorial School from 1994-2004, principal of Amherst Middle School from 2000-05 and principal of Salem High School since 2005.

He is a 1980 graduate of the University of New Hampshire and earned his master’s degree in school administration and supervision from Notre Dame College in Manchester in 1991.

The Bedford School Board expects a decision to be made on the position by late March or early April. The search committee was to visit Salem High School on March 5 before Hagen visits Bedford High School on March 12 to meet with students, parents, faculty and staff members.
