They came … they clashed … and they were delicious.

Triolo’s Bakery, of Bedford, was recognized as the Best Cupcake 2013 at the Clash of the Cupcakes held recently at the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester.

The winning entry was a chocolate-port wine cupcake with chocolate raspberry ganache and raspberry Italian buttercream.

The second annual Clash of the Cupcakes served as a fundraising event for Southern New Hampshire Services’ Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.

Members of the audience selected the fried dough-apple cinnamon cupcake entered by Cupcakes 101, of Bedford, as the People’s Choice winner.

Receiving Honorable Mention for their cupcake entries were:

Cupcake Conspiracy, Merrimack: Strawberry habanero cupcake.

Lakes Region Cupcakes, Tilton: Caramel apple cupcake.

Life is Sweet, Keene: Grateful Dead cupcake.

New England Cupcakery & Treats, Concord: Dirt cupcake.

Queen City Cupcakes, Manchester: Roasted acorn squash and pecan pie cupcake.

Sweet Ideas by Vikki, Salem: Tropical carrot cake cupcake.

Attendees had the opportunity to bid on and take home their favorite item from a silent auction. All attendees received samples of the cupcakes.

Emcee for the evening was Mike Morin, author and co-host of New Hampshire in the Morning on 95.7 WZID.

Judges included Cathy Allen, executive pastry chef at the Copper Door Restaurant, Raymond Wieczorek, District 4 Executive Councilor, and Page Wickens, owner/executive chef, Daddy’s Sweets.

Proceeds from the event benefit Southern New Hampshire Services’ Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.

The money raised helps RSVP recruit, train and recognize the program’s dedicated seniors who, through their volunteer service, remain active and contributing members of their community.

The event was sponsored by Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Center, King Arthur Flour, Riverstone Resources, Birch Hill Terrace, Cross Insurance, Hanover Hill Health Care Center and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care of New England.
