Bedford students write letters to vets and service members

Friday, December 20, 2013

NASHUA – Seventh-graders Sara Schmitt and Abigail McCarthy, both of Bedford, and seventh-grader O’Neill Galinson, of Amherst, joined friends at Nashua Catholic in a schoolwide service effort.

They participated in a letter-writing campaign to acknowledge the sacrifices of active servicemen and veterans, and to thank them for their commitment to the country.

Three student groups have been working together on this effort. The Nashua Catholic National Junior Honor Society is thanking those in the New Hampshire Veterans’ Home in Tilton through a letter campaign, and the Student Council is writing to current military and veterans associated with Nashua Catholic families.

Letters and personal care packages are being sent to Nashua Catholic parents and relatives deployed by the Hearts to Hands Service Club.

“One of the goals at Nashua Catholic is to plant seeds of life-long service within our students,” said Nashua Catholic Principal Glenda McFadden. “Almost half the school is directly involved with this service effort.”
