Applications for Young Rescuers USA being accepted in Manchester

MANCHESTER – Young Rescuers USA, with headquarters in Manchester, is now accepting applications for its 2014 U.S. team.

The 10-person delegation with three chaperones and seven youths between the ages of 13 and 17 are selected on a competitive basis to represent the U.S. at the International Rally of Young Firefighters and Rescuers in Belarus.

The Xv International Rally of Young Firefighters and Young Rescuers is held annually in the Republic of Belarus. This year’s rally will be held in the Gomel Region from July 14-25.

The rally is hosted by the Belarus Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The Young Rescuers USA program provides youth with a valuable opportunity to learn basic first aid and life-saving skills, develop international understanding, practice leadership skills and cooperation and build lasting friendships.

The program is managed by volunteers and supported by charitable donations and business sponsors. Training is conducted under the direction of Manchester Fire Lt. Leo Roy and begins this winter.
