NASHUA – Bedford’s Bailey Jamieson and Jakov Schwartzberg will perform in the Peacock Players’ production of “Disney’s Tarzan” for two weekends in May at the Janice B. Streeter Theater, at 14 Court St., Nashua.
“Tarzan” tells the classic tale of a shipwreck that leaves an infant boy orphaned on the shores of West Africa. The helpless baby is adopted and raised by a tribe of gorillas. As he grows and matures, the boy yearns for acceptance from his ape family and grows to discover the reason for his uniqueness. When a human expedition enters their territory, Tarzan – now a man – encounters strangers like himself for the first time.
Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang, who wrote the musical’s book – based on both the 1999 Disney feature film and the original Edgar Rice Burroughs story “Tarzan of the Apes” – has further revised the Broadway script. Peacock Players’ Mainstage production will also debut a new 14-piece orchestration of the Oscar and Grammy Award-winning music written by Phil Collins.
“Disney’s Tarzan” will be directed by Broadway veteran performer and multi-award winning director Keith Weirich – who also serves as artistic director for Peacock Players. Celebrated and renowned musical director Henry Kopczynskie III and choreographer Shaina Schwartz will lend their talents to the project.
“Disney’s Tarzan” is rated PG. Parental guidance is suggested for extremely young children.
“Disney’s Tarzan” will mark the final production in Peacock Players 38th Annual Mainstage season. Peacock Players will next present the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “Spring Awakening” in August.
