Friday, May 23, 2014

Emilee Metivier, an eighth grade student at Ross A. Lurgio Middle School, recently won the American Legion Junior Oratorical Contest.

The competition was open to all middle school students in the state.

The contest consisted of two parts.

First, a three- to five-minute prepared oration on any part of the Constitution and second, a two- to three-minute speech on an assigned phase of the Constitution selected from Articles or Amendments chosen by the judges.

Contestants are judged on both their speaking ability and knowledge of the subject area.
