MANCHESTER – The Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors announced recently that Michael Skelton will serve as president and chief executive officer of the organization.

In this role, Skelton will be responsible for overall management and oversee the development and implementation of GMCC’s strategic plan, programs and budgets. Skelton will also have a strong external focus, serving as GMCC’s key spokesperson and as an advocate for the Greater Manchester business community.

Skelton brings significant experience in public relations, media relations and government affairs to his new position.

He most recently served as media spokesperson for Public Service of New Hampshire, the state’s largest electric utility, where he was responsible for representing the company in front of local, state and national media.

Prior to joining PSNH, Skelton served as vice president of Economic Development and Advocacy for GMCC.

During his tenure, Skelton managed and directed GMCC’s economic development and advocacy efforts by representing the organization to policymakers. Skelton also played a key role in the advancement of GMCC’s strategic goals and policy priorities on key issues, such as business taxes, transportation infrastructure, health care costs, and workforce housing.

Actively involved in the community, Skelton shares his experience with many organizations. He is co-chair of the board of directors of Stay Work Play, a nonprofit committed to attraction and retention of young professionals in New Hampshire. He previously served as a board member and chairman of the Manchester Young Professional Network, the state’s largest young professional network.

Skelton also volunteers with the Daniel Webster Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was named to the 2014 class of New Hampshire’s 40 Under Forty young leaders by the Union Leader.

Ronald H. Covey, Jr, president/CEO of St. Mary’s Bank and chairman of GMCC board of directors, explained that Skelton’s proven leadership and expertise will lead the organization into its next chapter.

“Mike brings fresh perspective that will help us shape the future of the state’s largest chamber,” Covey said. “We’ve got an incredibly talented and dedicated staff and an extremely committed board of directors that will guide and support Mike.”

“It is truly an honor to have been chosen to lead an organization that has a long history and track record of being a powerful advocate for the region’s business community,” Skelton said. “I will work tirelessly with our board of directors, staff and volunteers to ensure the Chamber is a strong and influential ally for our members and effectively advocates on their behalf with policymakers.”

Skelton, 32, is a graduate of Saint Anselm College and resides in Bedford with his wife, Emily, and their newborn son, Colin.
