FOUR BEDFORD

SWIMMERS HEADED

TO CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Manchester Swim team dives into the championship season next week with four Bedford swimmers ready to compete in top form. In order to compete at these meets swimmers are required to meet stringent time standards based on Regional and National performances from the previous year. Bottom line, these meets bring high-quality competitors from across New England.

The New England NSSC Regional Meet will be held Feb. 10-14 at Salem State College in Salem, Mass. Michael Chen, Riley Ewing, Taylor Lee, Matt McKee, Lindsey Poremba, Megan Poremba and Noelle Theodoulou all qualified with performances this year.

The 13-19 Age Groups Championships at MIT’s Zesiger Center in Cambridge, Mass., are scheduled for March 4-7. Kathleen Bolton (15) will swim the 200-yard breaststroke. Kelsey Ewing (16) met qualifying stands in eight events: 50, 100, 200 and 500 free; 100 breast; 100 fly, and 200 and 400 IM. Alana Westwater sprinted to qualify in the 50 free, while Olivia Wons (14) met the standard in the 200 free.

Milan Sandhu (15) qualified in the 100 and 200 fly, and the 200 and 500 free. Teammate Zachary Grimmett (14) will also be in the 200 free. Matthew Bolton (17) will compete in the 500 free, 200 back and 200 IM.

RECREATION BASKETBALL

FOURTH GRADE BOYS

• A close game in the first half became a Hearthside Realty victory over Bounce U, 30-10. Hearthside Realty turned in their best performance yet with a win over a team that beat them earlier this season. Connor Crowley and Ben Lacombe led the offense (6 each) and Owen Brown, Collin Hoak, Devin LaFrance, Ian Spendley and Sammy Westbrook combined for 18. Bounce U created many opportunities but could not get their shots to drop. Their offense was contributed by Alex Portela, Jacob Coutu, Kyle Demeritt & Donny Crowder. Brandon Trento played tight defense.

• Bellwether Credit Union beat Pizza Mia in the final game of the regular season 19-8. For Belleather Kamyab Nikseresht turned in his best offensive performance with a game-high 8 points. Charlie Speaker followed with 5 points. BCU continued with their tenacious defense led by Omar Danaf with some keys steals and Max Boyarsky with some solid man to man coverage. Michael Masters led the offense for Pizza Mia with contributions by Cole Glennon and Greg Wheeler. Geoffrey Mosseau played tough inside defense and provided plenty of rebounds.

• Rescon Basement Solutions overcame some tough second-half defense by Keller Williams Realty, 27-19. For Keller Willams, Max Chartier had a strong day on both ends of the court. Kai Razi was reading the defense pretty well. Nick Towey had his strongest game of the season, scoring and playing excellent defense. For Rescon, Teagan Collins and Ryan Andrews had big days offensively with additional contributions by Tyler Bourgeois and Rohit Yerram.

• Carrabbas Italian Restaurant was defeated by Accurate Brazing 21-10. Carrabbas scoring was led by Kyle Fink with 6 points. Gannon Lowrie and Ryan Douthart each added a bucket. After a tight first half Accurate Blazing stepped up the defensive pressure lead by Spencer Adams and Josh Koellmer. Chris Francis provided rebounding support while Jonathan Violette made a great save. Matt Gilligan lead the team in scoring.

FIFTH/SIXTH BOYS

• Avalanche Screen Printing showed heart in a 43-29 loss to Active Body Studio. Nick Burdick led the way with 11 points and Michael Landman added 9 of his own for the Avalanche. Active was led in scoring by Tucker Lavigne and Kyle Jordan with 20 and 11 points, respectively. Evan Andrews had some nice steals to buoy Active’s tough team defense.

• Mir Sultan Rugs defeated Capital Kitchen and Bath 28-15. Evan Natale, Logan Major and Jason Albright led the way in the win. Capital Kitchen was led by Sean Kinney, Silas Johnson, Sam Lademan, and Cory Wallace.

• Gilman Law edged River Road Pediatrics, 22-20. Big men Ryan Porter and Paul Toscano led Gilman Law with 8 points each, while Ethan Widrig paced River Road Pediatrics with 7. Both teams have challenged the league leaders, and this game showed that parity. Both teams got points from five different players and forced turnovers.

• Oztek Corp. edged Bedford Men’s Club 26-24 in overtime. It was Oztek’s first success in three overtime games led by Connor Zendzian and Adam Kalil.

THIRD/FOURTH GIRLS

• Groundskeepers Unlimited continued their late season winning streak by beating Orion Eagles 10-7. Leading the offense was Lauren LaBonte with four points. The defense was anchored by Kate McHugh and Michelle McAree. Orion Eagles had balanced scoring as Morgan Burke, Alexa Dyer, Lexi Hawtin each scored a basket and Samantha Reeves added a foul shot.

• It was a back and forth battle throughout the game with Precision Letter edging out Snip-its 7-6. Anna Ropes led the winners with 5 points while Emily Adams scored a basket. Olivia Coco, Molly Elrick, and Emma Jane Tagliaferro all contributed to a strong defensive effort. Leading the offense for Snip-its were Molly Kraus, Deborah Ng, and Hannah Rinko who each scored a basket.

• Labelle Construction jumped out to an early lead over New Horizons and eventually went on to win 7-2. Sophia Capistran led the winners wth four points while Cate Withee added a basket and Erica Barley scored a foul shot. New Horizons played strong throughout the game with Tia Singleton, Jennifer Appleby, Shannon Bolser, Mary McGuire, and Kaleigh Singleton playing strong defensively..

• Baldwin & Clarke finished out the regular season with a tough 15-8 victory. Brooke Burden, Carly Casey each added a basket while Stephanie Conrad added three points. Veronica Gikas grabbed several key rebounds. Playing a great all around game Marissa Johnson had a game high eight points. NH Motor Speedway was led by Hope Lang six points and Devon O’Hara two points.

FIFTH/SIXTH GIRLS

• Meghan Foley and Brie Purcell teamed up for 12 points each to lead Sojurn Partners to victory. Red played tough defense lead by Abby Edwards, top scorers for Productions Inc were Edwards and Brie Sullivan. Rachel wells lead the orange team to victory with 6 second half points. Her team mate Isabella Clark chipped in 6 also. Acting Loft played strong defense to close the gap. The Loft was lead by Madeline Blake with 6 and Layla Wickwire with 5.

• A tight game until the last seconds saw Pension Design will their way into the lead with 5 late points from Molly Biederman. Louisa Berman chipped in 4 for the green while Biederman finished with 9.

Phi Slamma Jamma executed the complicated motion offense to perfection but their shots couldn’t find the bottom of the basket. Maddy Simpson had 4 and Anitha Machupalli had 2 for the energetic gray team

The lead changed every trip down court in the last 6 minutes. Karolian took the final lead with a bank shot from Coleen Keyes with seconds left.

AutoFair was led by 17 from Emma Holland and 6 from Meghan Winn.

SEVENTH/EIGHTH BOYS

• In a high powered offensive game, Economy Carz defeated Front Row Ticket Agency 42-33. Strong rebounding helped fuel 13 points from Economy’s leading scorer Kyle Barnsley while teammate Evan Terzian followed closely behind with 12. Front Row’s leading scorer on the day was Nick Barnard with a strong 14, MacKenzie Turgeon dropped in 7.

• In an exciting down to the wire game, Clifford Sells held on to defeat Montagne Communications 27-26. Seven different players scored for the Clifford victory Jimmy Heald led with 8, followed by Demetri Papakostas with 6, Montagne had a big offensive game from Justin Mickelson dropping in 10 points, Andrew Barton also had a strong game with 7.

n In another close game, BVD Maniacs held on to win 29-25 against a tough Spectrum Marketing team. Matthew Martin led the way for BVD with 10 points while Nick Brown dropped in the next 8. The win was solidified by Jordan Towers defensive effort, along with Aube’s solid passing game and O’Hare’s rebounding. Spectrum was led by the shooting of Patrick Simpson as he poured in 9. Teammates Chris Conery and Austyn Couture added 4 each.

• The close games continued as Rock 101 held on to defeat Granite Physiatry 35-33 in a nail-biter. Rock 101’s scoring was divided up among 7 players. Revanth Demerla led with 8, Andrew Kalil finished with 7, Kyle Andersson dropped in 6. Matt Johnston’s 12 points and Matt Tetu’s 11 led the way for the Granite boys. Derek Steele played hard from start to finish.

• In late afternoon play, MDC Recovery Service defeated Opus 29-16. Marco Santini’s double-digit game of 14 led the way for MDC. Working hard to get open, Tony Martucci finished with 8 points and quick moves under the hoop netted Grant Mello the next 7. Opus’ Nick Cote finished strong with 8 points. Gage Benson had a strong defensive game, top to bottom.

• Finishing up a day of exciting games, BJ Laliberte held on to defeat Nixon-Peabody 20-18 in a game dominated by defense. On the scoring side, Laliberte’s Andrew Biedermann led all scorers with 11, under the boards Chris Buck followed with 4. Three players for Nixon-Peabody, Jeff Graves, Jack Hanaway and Tyler Krause each dropped in a pair of 2’s. Both teams played exceptional under the boards to take the game down to the wire.

SEVENTH/EIGHTH GIRLS

• In the division’s first game of the day MDC Recovery Service defeated Hamilton Software 24-17. MDC was led by Brenna Williams 8 points, followed by 6 points each from Chandler Lake and Jessica Martucci. Strong rebounding by Maddie Oliwa helped preserve the win. Hamilton’s leading scorers were Olivia Glover and Meghan Lussier with 6 points each. Kate Deabill’s hustle and Katina Smith’s work under the boards kept the game close.

• In the division’s second game, Voyager Systems defeated iLevel by Weyerhauser 24-10. Great work under the boards netted Voyagers leading scorer Gabrielle Hunter 11 points. Great work up and down the court by Gina Cassidy proved to be key in the Voyager victory. iLevel’s scoring came from five players with a bucket each, Madison Collins, Julie Darbouze, Amanda Soterion, Jacqueline Therrien and Ali Withee.

• In an exciting defensive game, Boehm-Graham Interiors held on to defeat True Blue Cleaners 14-13. Boehm-Grahams leading scorer was Katie Hosang with 6, Paige Bibbo and Courtney Moe answered with 4 points each. Maddie Earnshaw played strong under the hoop and Jessica O’Neil hustled from end to end. True Blue’s leading scorers Letti Hibbard and Kyle Holland finished with 4 each. Erin Curran had a strong defensive game for True Blue.

HS BIDDY GIRLS

• Ali Bishop drained early shots from outside then banged inside late in the game to lead ND with 16 points. Kelley Ayotte’s point played made a big difference as she was able to dribble out the clock. UCLA was paced by Michelle Robinson’s record 4 3 pointers, Mickey Desroche lead the defensive push for black and she netted a key 3 pointer. Green’s fastbreak was too much.

• Blue Devils had a balanced attack lead by Senior Captain Chelsea Haynes who netted 12 including a lead grabbing 3 pointer. Sam Schehl knocked in 6 points and Jaz Zajac had a season high 8. The Pink Wolverines were lead by Captains Aubrey Ouellet and Katie Pilot each with 8. Martha Dalrymple was Pink’s special offense this week, dropped in 6 points.
