FOOTBALL
Jags 4th-grade team
The Bedford Jaguars fourth-grade team traveled down to Stello’s Stadium in Nashua to take on the Elks on Sunday. Despite a hugely improved effort across the board, on offense and defense, the Jags lost a tough game to the Elks, 28-0. The Jaguars controlled the clock for most of the afternoon, but a handful of breakdowns on defense resulted in four Nashua touchdowns. Zach Garron narrowly missed a touchdown after a 50-yard run that would’ve made the game a two-score contest before a late touchdown from the Elks put the game away. After the bye week this weekend for the Labor Day holiday, the Jags will look to regroup and welcome NorRock to Bedford High School on Sept. 12.

The defense was led by O’Rouke, Ray Etzo, Dunn, Mahoney and Glassman, who all had several tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Linebackers Michael Carluccio, Mac Turgeon and O’Rouke kept the Raiders contained. Vailas, Astarita and Hanaway kept the Raiders passing yardage to a minimum. Astarita had an interception.

Bedford Jags 5th-6th grade
The Jaguars fifth- to sixth-grade football squad came to play today against the Manchester West Raiders. The game started with the Black defense taking the ball away from West on their first play. From there, the Jaguars never looked back!
The Black offense was able to score within four plays ending in a 10-yard run by Sean Tierney with the blocking of Paxton Smith, Caleb McDonald, Sam Lademan, Thomas Parker, Alex Kurowski, Brendan Dillon and Nick Cannone. Connor Robert came through with the extra point.
After a four and out by the West Raiders the Blue offense of the Jaguars was able to move the ball effectively ending in a 13-yard touchdown run by Sharuke Hussain. Sharuke also scored the extra point.
The third score of the first half was on a nice pass play to Jake Sarno. The extra point was scored by Brendan Dillon on an end around.
In the third quarter the Raiders were able to intercept a pass attempt and run it back 50 yards for a touchdown. To the Jaguars credit, they came roaring back with a passing attack that had Dillon catching and running for 30 yards before being taken down at the one yard line. Dimetri Anagnost was able to score on a one yard run with Nick Leahy scoring the extra point to make it 34-6.
The defensive six packs Black,Gold, White and Teal did a very effective job of stopping the Raiders who only scored late in the fourth quarter for a final score of 34-12.
