Mitt Romney has earned your vote
Thursday, December 15, 2011
To the Editor:
In 1994, Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy faced a serious threat from an energetic, highly successful business entrepreneur, Mitt Romney. With the two candidates neck-to-neck in September, the Kennedy campaign resorted to Chicago-like tactics and attack ads. You know who won.
For me, born and raised in Brookline, MA, that was it. I decided to move to Marietta, GA, the home of Newt Gingrich, one of the creators of the “Contract with America.” Living in Marietta, I came to realize that although at times brilliant, Newt was at times impractical and sometimes downright irrational. One never knew which Newt would show up. He would sometimes float an idea and then a week later he would completely reverse his position. His chaotic leadership of the house Republicans ended with his resignation in 1998.
Again, although at times brilliant, the depth of baggage Newt carries is overwhelming. This is why the Democrats are doing all they can to manipulate the Republican race hoping that they’ll face Newt. So the attacks against Mitt Romney continue in the “main-stream media” while it’s been virtually non-existent for Newt.
So how do the Democrats attack Mitt? Not on his business record; they can’t, it’s extraordinary! Not on the 2002 Winter Olympics that he turned around. Not on his four years as the governor of Massachusetts, and certainly not on his personal life. So they promote the mythology, with relentless attacks, that he is a soulless “flip-flopper” by bringing up positions taken eons ago as though they were written in blood. NO ONE, certainly no political leader should ever be so entrenched in their beliefs and positions that they can’t change. The United States needs a president who is willing to listen to the people and adapt to today’s changing times. The unprecedented, preemptive attacks on Mitt Romney are designed to force him into a two-front war. If Newt Gingrich ends up as the Republican nominee, he may very well have the Democrats to thank for it.
Mitt Romney’s faith in God, his family and our country offers moral fortitude and strength of character we need in these difficult times. The people of New Hampshire believe that Mitt has earned their vote. More than 3,500 people have come to see and listen to Mitt at Town Halls across this state. More than 15,000 yard signs have been displayed. Volunteers - people like you and me – have made 275,000 phone calls (not recorded robocallers or hired companies) and knocked on 30,000 doors, at times accompanied by Mitt himself!
We desperately need a change in Washington and we need to nominate someone who can actually defeat Obama and his corrupt Chicago tactics. With a wealth of experience in private business, his time as governor and the countless hours listening to voter’s concerns, Mitt Romney has earned your vote.
