Friday, September 2, 2011

BEDFORD – The Bedford Fire Department Scholarship Fund Committee recently presented $1,000 scholarships to four children of Bedford firefighters. This year’s recipients are: Kellyn Boyden, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John Boyden; Kyle Caron, son of Nancy Keenom-Caron; Stephanie Clark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Clark; and Michael Scanlon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Scanlon.

Jim Clark is a full-time lieutenant/paramedic firefighter, while John Boyden is one of 10 call EMT/firefighters. Both Nancy Keenom-Caron and Michael Scanlon were members of the department but have since retired.

The BFD Scholarship Fund was established in 1974 and has awarded $103,000 to 120 recipients. Money to award these scholarships is derived from the department’s annual Toll Boot collection held at the Bedford Walmart parking lot, as well as donations received during the year.
