Boomers display model trains at exhibition
Friday, November 11, 2011
T he Bedford Boomers held their 29th annual Model Railroad Exhibition on Sunday at McKelvie Middle School in Bedford.
The “largest noncommercial model display east of the Mississippi River,” according to the club, took place 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
“Boomer” is a railroad term for itinerate workers in the late 1800s who moved from one railroad system to another. Members of the club participate in railroad exhibitions and help others build and operate train layouts.
The 2011 show, recognized nationwide, featured more than 40,000 square feet of model railroad equipment, displays and operation systems representing several scales of trains.
