Man struck by truck near Elk Drive

Friday, January 27, 2012

A man walking along Route 101 the evening of Jan. 18 was hit by a pickup truck and seriously injured, police said.

The victim has been identified as Scott Shipley, 52, of Bedford.

Shipley sustained serious injuries in the accident that were not life-threatening, police said. He was treated by a Bedford rescue crew at the scene and transported to Elliot Hospital in Manchester, police said.

Shortly after 7 p.m., police said, Shipley was struck by a 2010 Ford F-150 operated by Robert Cousens, 53, of Merrimack, as he was crossing or walking along Route 101 westbound from Bedford Irving West gas station.

Officers arrived to find him lying on the roadside.

The Bedford Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene, and the circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors, police said.

Although a portion of Route 101 was partially closed, police directed eastbound and westbound traffic around the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bedford Police Department at 472-5113.
