BASKETBALL
Bedford Travel Teams
The Bedford sixth-grade girls defeated Hooksett 29-16 behind six points each from Maddy Graves and Mary McGuire, and five points from Aly Fillion. They also downed Amherst 43-32 behind seven points from Fillion and Karina Schappler, and three assists each from Maddy Buffett, Clare Driscoll and Mia Roy.
The Bedford fifth-grade girls beat Windham 50-21 behind 13 points from Courtney Krause and 11 points from Lizzy Stevenson. They also defeated New Boston 31-8 and were led in scoring by Sarah Cote, Caroline DeLisle, Hannah McCarthy and Morgan Rouleau.
The Bedford third-grade girls beat St. Catherine’s 20-19. Isabella King scored 17 points including an 18-foot jump shot at the buzzer for the win. The girls then lost to Windham 29-14 but received strong performances from Emma LeGuollon, Carly Rinko and Katey OConnell.
The Bedford fifth-grade boys opened the league with two wins, beating Amherst 60-37 and Londonderry 51-37. Liam O’Connell led the team over Amherst with 18 points including three 3-pointers, with Lucien Mumpini and Ryan Tascano adding nine points each. In the win over Londonderry, each player scored with Tascano leading with 17 and Cole Wheeler with seven. Harrsion Legoullon and Kaleb Harrington did a nice job of rebounding to help with the win.
Third- and fourth-grade girls
Bedford Hills Care and Rehab defeated the NH Orthopeadic Center 10-0. Great defense by Angelica Bouley and solid teamwork by Maeve Jackson lead Bedford Hills.
Oztek Corp came away with its first win over the Inside Scoop in a closely contested 9-8 battle. Chamberlaine Bell provided the offensive while Mia Purcell and Abbie Zendzian were a defensive force.
The Crazy Monkeys shut down previously undefeated TRM Microwave with a score of 10-0. Zoe Michaud and Ali Morgan played terrific games for The Crazy Monkeys.
Fifth- and sixth-grade girls
It was a high scoring affair with Groundskeepers Unlimited beating Precision Letter Corp. 22-13. Several players scored for GU with Grace Rooney leading the victors with six points and Brooke Burdon and Victoria Gikas adding four each. Molly Elrick and Tyler Schiappa, with Lily Bromley playing strong defense, led Precision Letter Corp.
Active Body Studio jumped out to an early first half lead and never looked back as it defeated Youth League Management 20-6.
The game-high scoring for ABS was Mary Mcguire with 10 points with Erica Gettings and Hope Lang contributed four points each. YLM had a strong rebounding effort by Sofia Anderson and solid defense by Ella DiTomaso and Caitlynn Helton.
In a close match up between Bedford Self-Storage and New Hampshire Motor Speedway, BSS was able to hold on to win 14-10. Aubrey Clark who was the game high scorer with six points to led BSS and Corrie LaBelle contributed four. NHMS had several players scoring a basket and Ella Lange and Lexi Hawtin anchored the defense.
Seventh- and eighth-grade girls
Phi Slamma Jamma defeated BARC 30-8. Kira Fahmy led all players with 10 points while Jordan Wasylak had sixpoints, Megan Foley had eight points and Emily Curran had four each for Phi Slamma Jamma. BARC was led on offense by Heather Howell with a long 3-pointer. Issy Clark controlled the lane and made rebounding tough for PSJ, as she finished with two points and Lily Heald added three.
Sojourn Partners defeated Pension Design Services 33-12. Sojourn Partners got eight points from Sydney Ford and Shanna Scribner. Danielle Angelini led the team in defensive pressure and came away with two points. Pension Design’s Olivia Ouellet had long 3-pointer that sparked a rally that fell short. Layla Wickwire and Sarah
Cole were strong defensive contributors for Pension.
Rock 101 won a hard fought game 21-14 over Arbors of Bedford. The winners got clutch shooting from Maddy Hawtin and a strong team defense led by Morgan Barnsley and Madison Mindes. Arbors of Bedford made a nice comeback in the second half but it wasn’t enough. Abby Edwards and Bridget Woodrig lead the offense and Paige Wallat and Rachel Codair did well defensively.
LACROSSE
Cannons hold registration
Registration for the 2012 lacrosse season is open, but the travel roster spots are quickly filling up. Any boy or girl, age 7 to 14, interested in playing outdoor, spring lacrosse is encouraged to register as soon as possible. Returning players will be placed on a first-come basis. Registration fee for the nearly six month season is $175 per player, with a maximum family charge of $350.00. Players can register by going to the Bedford Youth Lacrosse Association Web site at register.bedfordcannons.org.
The 2012 outdoor lacrosse season runs from the middle of March to the middle of June. No experience is necessary to sign up. BYLA offers a recreation lacrosse program to boys and girls under the age of 11, and travel teams that play other town teams in the U11, U13 and U15 levels.
Weekly indoor sessions have begun and are held each Tuesday at NH Sportsplex and will run until March 28. These skill-based sessions are offered at no extra charge and will help all players in all age groups and genders to learn and prepare for the coming outdoor season. Players are encouraged to attend but they are not mandatory. Session times are 5 p.m. for Rec. and U11 players and 6 p.m. for U13 and U15 players.
