MILFORD – Nearly 200 business and professional leaders flocked to Hampshire Hills Sports and Fitness Center last week to celebrate the annual Best of the Souhegan Region awards.

They networked and went through the buffet lines before getting down to the business of the evening: honoring the local businesses that were selected by readers of The Cabinet and its sister newspaper, The Merrimack, Hollis Brookline and Bedford journals.

This was not a multiple-choice process, said Karen Johnson, a Cabinet advertising representative during opening remarks at the awards ceremony.

Readers had to fill in a form and name the business themselves, not select from a list.

More than 2,000 readers participated, she said.
