SB2 is a fairer way to vote on town matters
Wednesday, February 3, 2010
To the Editor:
On Thursday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m., there will be a Public Hearing on several items for the Mont Vernon School District. One will be the question:
“Shall we adopt the provisions of RSA 40:13 (known as SB 2) to allow official ballot voting on all issues before the Mont Vernon School District on the second Tuesday of March?”
This petition warrant article will be on the Mont Vernon School District ballot March 9. Senate Bill 2 (RSA 40:13) is a 1995 NH statute that will allow all registered Mont Vernon voters to have equal opportunity to vote on Village School matters by either an absentee ballot or a ballot during daytime voting hours.
This means that a voter is no longer required to attend a school district meeting to vote.
It will allow all Mont Vernon registered voters, who are not able to participate in the School District meeting, to vote on Village School matters, including the budget. It provides fairness for voters who are: on military deployment; will be out of town on business; on vacation; at their employment during that time; elderly and cannot attend lengthy meetings; concerned about their personal safety attending a night meeting; deterred by pending weather conditions; or not able to participate due to health reasons.
