School building board did its job

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

To the Editor:

I would like to respond and clarify some quotes credited to me by Mark W. Altner in his letter to the editor.

The first of the Consolidation Facilities Committee’s recommendations was to relocate both sixth grades from the elementary schools to the middle school wing of the high school. By doing this it would create the opportunity to bring the Lyndeborough kindergarten and the special education pre-school program back into the district thus not only saving money in transportation costs but having more control over our children’s education.

One of the other recommendations was to have the SAU offices located in a district-owned property; this would save over $10,000 in rent payments per year. These two different recommendations were discussed at a consolidated board meeting and it was voted not to put the question of relocating the sixth grades before the voters at this time.

Then the Lyndeborough Central School Board brought forward a warrant article for an addition to the Lyndeborough Central School. The consolidated board voted to accept this warrant article. The comment that I made at that time was if we are going to put an addition on the Lyndeborough Central School then why not include the SAU office space as well? It was decided to post the warrant article as presented by the Lyndeborough Central School Board. There was no attempt to mislead voters as these were comments made at different times in two different discussions.
