MILFORD – Life should get a bit easier for dialysis patients in the Souhegan Valley.

Instead of driving to the nearest dialysis center in Nashua, they will soon have one in Milford.

Fresenius Medical Care, a German medical equipment company that has 44 other dialysis facilities in New England, will soon open the FMC Southern NH Dialysis Center in Lorden Plaza, at the former site of the Toadstool Bookshop, which moved to the more eastern section of the plaza last year.

Nicole Nord Smith, clinical manager of the Milford Fresenius Medical Care, said Tuesday that it is “semi-open.”

Just one patient comes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so that when state inspectors make an unannounced visit they can see the clinic in operation.

“Once they come and we are certified we will be fully open,” Smith said.

The clinic has a list of about 15 patients so far, she said, some from Wilton, Mont Vernon and Greenville

Fresenius has 2,100 dialysis facilities in North America with corporate headquarters in Waltham, Mass.

Milford’s community development director Bill Parker mentioned Fresenius as being among several significant new projects in town.

They include renovations to the Pine Valley Mill into residential units that will start soon, the new Airmar manufacturing building at Meadowbrook Park, the Francestown Village Foods manufacturing plant at Granite Town Plaza and Hutchinson Point, a senior condominium that recently received Planning Board approval.
