AMHERST – Police have identified the victim of the fatal head-on collision along Route 101A on Friday, Dec. 27, as John Ferraro, 62, of Amherst.

Just after 3:30 p.m., Dec. 27, Ferraro’s gray Toyota Rav4 veered across the center line and struck a gray Ford Escape in oncoming traffic.

The driver of the Escape, Karla Lessard, 55, of Milford, was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening immediately after the accident, police said.

Lessard was driving west on Route 101A when she was hit by Ferraro’s SUV near Atlas Fireworks Factory.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation by Amherst police on Saturday, Dec. 28.

According to Merrimack Patch, Ferraro was pronounced dead at the scene despite receiving CPR from bystanders, including an off-duty firefighter from Lowell, Mass.

Friday’s accident is the sixth fatal auto crash in Greater Nashua this month. It comes on the heels of deadly driving episodes in Amherst, Milford, Brookline and Nashua.

Ferarro is the 132nd fatality on New Hampshire’s roadways this year, according to numbers from the Department of Safety.
