WILTON – Every five years, residents spend a week celebrating Old Home Days. This year the event coincides with the town’s 275th anniversary and will be observed from Saturday Aug. 16 through Sunday Aug. 24.

The grand parade theme is “275 Years of Neighbors Helping Neighbors.” Grand Marshalls are three long-time residents: Charlie McGettigan, Stan Young and Allan “Rollie” Jowders. Between them, they represent just about those 275 years.

From opening ceremonies on the 16th through the closing ceremonies on Aug. 24, the week includes a wide variety of activities with something for all ages. Included are a softball game, (4th annual police vs. firemen); chicken barbecues, a firemen’s parade and muster; music every evening at Whiting Park, horseshoes, a mystery theater at the Congregational Church, open studios at Riverview Mill, 2-mile walk/fun run, martial arts, antique autos, and a dog parade and agility demonstration.

All events are free but donations of non-
perishable food to The Open Cupboard Pantry would be greatly appreciated. There will be bins for donations at Whiting Park.

Other events include a scavenger hunt, hay rides, and class reunions.

Most events take place in Whiting Park.
