Fund to aid Wilton man whose apartment burned
Thursday, December 10, 2009
WILTON – A fund has been set up to help William Beard, whose apartment on Wilson Street in Wilton Center was badly damaged by fire on Sunday.
Beard escaped unhurt, but there is heavy smoke and water damage to his apartment. The fund is at Lake Sunapee Bank, 32 Elm St., Milford.
Fire Chief Ray Dick said the fire started in a clothes dryer and spread to a bathroom and living room. Firefighters arrived at about 1:40 p.m. and sounded two alarms because there is not enough water available in Wilton Center, he said.
Lyndeborough and Greenville tanker trucks arrived shortly after, but Dick said they were not needed because the fire was under control in about 20 minutes.
The apartment is attached to a garage and owned by Cleveland Beard.
