Angling for a good day at Railroad Pond
Thursday, May 27, 2010
The Milford Police Department held its annual fishing derby in memory of Michael McBriarty on Saturday morning from 8-11 a.m. The pond was stocked with 500 trout days before the derby.
The police department and McBriarty family provided complimentary coffee, doughnuts, a large assortment freshly baked goods, soda and drinks. Each child who that participated received a bag with some fishing supplies such as bobbers, hooks, lures and so forth plus safety items in the bag as well as a container of worms. There was also a raffle for a TV.
According to Police Chief Fred Douglas 167 kids registered to fish through out the day and 151 total fish were caught.
CLOCKWISE FROM TOP: Breanna Jodoin, 12, of Mason, and Caleb Potter, 11, of Milford, enjoy fishing.
Nate Dupres, 10, of Milford, and Bill Seqin, 11, of Amherst, found a quiet spot to fish.
This 21.5 inch sucker fish drew a big crowd of interested spectators as it was being measured. It was caught by Sequin. Billy said his trick was using a long line after his bobber so the hook was close to the bottom of Rail Road Pond.
Logan Heidel, 6, of Milford, carries his four trout to the check-in station.
Derby winners in the 1-5-year-old and 6-9-year-old categories are below.
