Eleanor Wooters, 86, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua.

She was born in Rumford, Maine, on Oct. 9, 1923, daughter of the late Frank Dorion and Rebecca (Poirier) Dorion.

Mrs. Wooters was raised and educated in Rumford, where she had been a lifetime resident until she moved to Milford in 2004 to be closer to her son and daughter. She was the wife of the late Joseph L. Wooters, Sr., formerly of Philadelphia, Pa.

For more than 25 years she, along with her husband, owned JL Wooters & Co. Moving & Storage in Rumford, where she worked as the business manager. She was a communicant of St. John’s Church in Rumford for many years. Mrs. Wooters was also an active member of a guild of artisans known as The Historical Society of Early American Decoration. Over the years, she produced many fine decorative pieces and garnered several awards from the Guild at juried exhibits.

In her early years, despite the demands of managing a business, she always made time for her children’s activities. She also had a keen interest in furniture restoration and chair caning, and was a frequent participant in classes and workshops held at The Mechanics Institute on Congress Street in Rumford.

After her retirement, she volunteered at the Rumford Middle School Library, helping to computerize their card catalog. As well as being an accomplished artist in many media, she enjoyed knitting and quilting, was a wonderful cook, and loved animals.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Linda and Jeffrey P. Sheldon of Tyngsborough, Mass.; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph L. Wooters, Jr. and Wilma Wetterstrom of Boston, Mass.; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as her beloved dog, Bella.
