‘Dog Days’ at Beaver Brook

HOLLIS – Dog Days, a fun and educational event for dogs and their owners, will be held at the Beaver Brook Nature Center in Hollis from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Aug. 17.

There will be Ask-a-Vet booths, dog food and gear vendors, dog groomers, dog care facilities, wildlife displays and biologists.

Featured guest is Randy Pierce, of VisionQuest, and his dog, the Mighty Quinn. Pierce will share a video and stories of climbing the 48 4,000-foot tall mountains of New Hampshire as a blind hiker with the company of his dog, at 1 p.m.

Beaver Brook naturalists will lead guided hikes of varying lengths for dogs and their families at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. There will be a self-guided storywalk for visitors to follow a children’s storybook along the trail. Also on tap are canine demonstrations, including nosework, the sport of scent work.

In the Shade Garden, there will be a Paws to Read area for children to read storybooks to reading dogs and have their photos taken. There will be cart rides for young children by Bernese mountain dogs.

Don’t forget to bring a costume for your dog if you would like to join in the pet parade and costume contest at 11 a.m.

Food will be available for sale including grill-your-own hot dogs or tofu pups on a stick, plus homemade baklava ice cream. Raffles will be available.

Friendly dogs must be on a leash (no flexi-leads please) and cleaned up after. Pet pools and water bowls will be around the property for hydration stations.
