Sinti Rhythm: Hot Jazz and Gypsy Swing at Amherst Town Librar on Jan. 19

Thursday, December 26, 2013

AMHERST – The Amherst Town Library begins the ninth year of its very popular Sundays at 4 music series on Sunday, Jan. 19, with “Sinti Rhythm: Hot Jazz and Gypsy Swing” performing from 4-5 p.m., in the Main Reading Room of the library.

The Amherst Town Library is appreciative for the funding provided by the Friends of the Amherst Town Library for this 2014 music series, which also includes the following programs: “Solstice Sackbuts: Sliding Through the Ages” on Feb. 16, “Granite Statesmen Chorus in Concert” on March 2, and “Ragtime Piano with Deborah Wyndham” on April 13.

Sinti Rhythm is an exciting quartet performing vintage swing music in the style of the great gypsy jazz guitarist, Django Reinhardt. With clarinet, two guitars and string bass, they play standards from the Great American Songbook, lesser-known gems from the ’20s and ’30s, works by Reinhardt and original pieces – all with a fresh lighthearted sound and infectious beat that hearken back to the pre-war heyday of classic jazz. The jazz band features Andy Moore on clarinet, Jack Soref on lead guitar, Jameson Stewart on rhythm guitar, and Mike Ball on double bass.

All performances are free and open to the public. However, registration is required for each performance due to space limitations. To register for any or all of the Sundays at 4 concerts, call 673-2288, email or visit and select the “Community Services” tab, then click on drop down “Sign-Up for Programs.”
