Lions symposium in Manchester to address community needs
Thursday, March 20, 2014
MANCHESTER – “Strengthening Our Community – One Family at a Time,” a women and families symposium addressing today’s concerns about youth, health and environment, will be held Saturday, March 29, at Manchester Community College.
Lions of Multiple District 44 and Manchester Community College are sponsoring the event.
The symposium is free and open to the public.
Speakers are expected to include Gov. Maggie Hassan and Lions Past International Director Carolyn Messier.
During the symposium, attendees are invited to participate in discussions. The event will include free child care for children ages 4-12.
The symposium, geared toward women, is intended to create an awareness of Lions’ efforts in New Hampshire. This is the first time an event is presented exclusively to address the issues that affect women, while at the same time letting the public know what Lions do. The women and families symposium will be a step in reaching this goal.
“Helping Our Children” is part of the Lions women and family symposium program, a program for Lions clubs worldwide to gather members of the community to discuss issues of relevance to families.
As a result of the symposium, the Lions of New Hampshire hope to implement a program to meet some of the pressing community needs discussed by event participants.
Lions clubs are humanitarian service clubs that have been active in the New Hampshire community for more than 90 years. The club’s programs include providing vision and hearing assistance through the Lions and youth programs through Lions Youth Services.
