Milford-based teen safety group to provide leadership training
Thursday, August 7, 2014
MILFORD – Community Action for Safe Teens will provide leadership training for high school students in August.
CAST is a committee of the Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley.
Training will be in the areas of connecting, understanding their roles as part of a team, and practicing real-life skills in communication and leadership, with a focus on the impact of lifestyle choices, substance abuse prevention, learning skills to positively confront behaviors of concern and increasing positive school climate, as well as encouraging their peers to make healthy choices.
There will be an advocacy training component to this initiative, in which youths will be trained in the ways they can successfully advocate for policy and/or community change on the issues of illicit substance use.
The curriculum will follow the Life of an Athlete model – students do not need to be athletes to attend.
The training will take place from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11.
The program is limited to 40 participants. There is no cost to participate; however, registration is required, and participants are expected to act as ambassadors of CAST in relation to special projects/activities and support the Life of an Athlete and/or substance use prevention programs in their respective schools in 2014-15.
