BOYS BASKETBALL:
MILFORD 80, ST. THOMAS 49
Jamie Holder and Mike O’Loughlin scored a game-high 13 points and Dan Desmaris added 12 of his own to lead the Spartans past the Saints in Dover.
Kevin Kent chipped in with nine points, while Ethan Watson, Jovi Philbrick and Mike Mitchell scored seven each in the win.
GIRLS BASKETBALL:
SOUHEGAN 53, KINGSWOOD 35
Jackie Jones led a balanced Sabers’ attack with a game-high 15 points. Jane White hit three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points while Ceara McNamara and Lauren Cordts each had eight points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL:
ST. THOMAS 48, MILFORD 42
Freshman Dina Pitsas once again had a solid outing, finishing with 14 points and grabbing 15 rebounds while Bri Corron (11 points) and Mary Donovan (eight points) also played well in the loss.
BOYS BASKETBALL:
SOUHEGAN 66, KINGSWOOD 63
Dan Gilligan, who along with Seth Cordts paced the Sabers (8-3) with 15 points apiece, hit two big free throws in the final minute to seal the deal in Amherst. The Sabers, who trailed by nine at the half, also got 12 points from Jack Nelson and 10 points and 15 rebounds from Ryan Redmond. Dylan Lovering led Kingswood with 29 points.
BOYS BASKETBALL:
W-L 50, DERRYFIELD 39
The Warriors knocked the Cougars (11-1) from the ranks of the unbeaten in Manchester, thanks to Adam Edmunds 14 points and a monster 23-rebound, 11-point, four-block night by Steven Heck. Ryan Burke added 12 points to the Warrior cause, while Aaron Davis and Tory Rysnick had four assists apiece. Wilton (9-3) jumped out to a 16-6 advantage and led by as many as 15 points. Marty McCormick led Derryfield with 12 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL:
DERRYFIELD 36, W-L 30
The host Warriors trailed 12-3 after one period and could only close the gap to three points the rest of the way, dropping to 6-7. Marika Thompson had six points and Hannah Crosby five to lead Wilton. The Cougars are now 12-3.

INDOOR TRACK: PERET
LEADS SABERS, AGAIN
The Souhegan Sabers were once again led by Mike Peret and the four-by-one-lap relay at Sunday’s weekly qualifying indoor track meet on the University of New Hampshire campus in Durham.
Competing with athletes from more than 20 teams throughout the state from all Classes, Peret sprinted to first in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.3 seconds, eclipsing his own school record run earlier this season.
Peret has now completed the regular season undefeated and will be the favorite for the Class I-M-S title at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 7 at Dartmouth College.
Peret was also third in the 300 meter (37.8), while teaming up with Parker Hall, Dennis Elverson and Chris Chininis in the four-by-one-lap relay for a school record run of 1 minute, 16.8 seconds. Although they were third in the event (to Nashua High School North and Salem), the Sabers will be the top seed in the Class I Meet.
Chris Chininis’ 19 feet, 7 inch jump was good for third in the long jump, while the 4x400 relay foursome of Jacob Lawrence, Aaron Parker, Jake Kittredge and Grant Raymond ran a 3:50.5 for second place.
The Souhegan girls’ team was led with a first place shot put throw of 33-9¾ from Isabella Stuopis, who will sit near the top of the Class I seedings for next week. The only other individual scorer for the Sabers was Kelsey Knight, who placed fifth in the 55 meter hurdles in 9.3 seconds.

SABERS QUALIFY FOR
GRANITE STATE ELITE TEAMS
Souhegan High School qualified three skiers for New Hampshire’s elite teams.
Nick Murphy and Anthony Caruso qualified for the Eastern High School Championship team, which is composed of the top 24 boys and top 24 girls high school skiers in New Hampshire. Skiers qualify for this team based on their combined results from the two New Hampshire Coaches Series Races. The Eastern High School Championships is the premier event for high school and prep school racers in New England and New York. Murphy and Caruso will represent New Hampshire in races held at Gunstock Nordic in Gilford from March 12-14.
Jack Chapman qualified for the J2 team. Jason Bender is second alternate for the boys team, and Pia Marciano is fourth alternate for the girls team. The J2 team includes the top 20 boys and top 20 girls aged 14-15 (as of Jan. 1, 2010). Qualification for this team is also based on the combined results from the two New Hampshire Coaches Series Races. Chapman will represent New Hampshire at the J2 races that will be held at Jackson Ski Touring Center in Jackson on March 5-7. The competition includes teams from New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts and New York. In addition, invited entries from Utah, Idaho, and Canada usually compete in the event.

HOCKEY: SOUHEGAN 2,
SOMERSWORTH 1 (OT)
Ben Rafferty scored two goals, including a power-play goal three minutes into overtime for the win.
Quinn Carroll (two) and Joe Stacy recorded assists and Evan Dressel great game at forward. A strong team defense in front of goalie Erik Hayden (14 saves) kept the Sabers in striking distance throughout. Somersworth grabbed a 1-0 lead early in first and Souhegan tied it up late in opening frame.
WRESTLING: NASHUA NORTH
BEATS SPAULDING, MILFORD
Doug McQuaid (135 pounds) and Oscar Ayala (140) picked up two pinning wins each in their respective weight classes as the Titans beat the Red Raiders 66-18 and Spartans 42-24 at Milford High School on Saturday morning. Milford won its match with Spaulding 58-12.
Joe Dudka also grabbed a couple wins for North with a pin against his Spaulding opponent and an 18-4 decision in the Milford match. Chris Anderson (171) and PJ Nesbit (130) also had big wins against Milford.
In the loss to the Titans, the Spartans had pinning wins from Josh Kilgore (215) and Andrew Vellantoni (285), while Jordan Gaudet (189), Joe Albina (160), Connor Borne (130) and Nate Soucy (140) all recorded pin wins for Milford against Spaulding.

SECOND IN COACHES
SERIES RACE
The Souhegan boys and girls took to the snow in Whitefield for the second part of the New Hampshire Coaches Series Race.
The Sabers boys beat out 20 other teams to win the Division A 5k Skate Race and combined with their third-place finish in Part 1 of the series finished second overall behind Hopkinton.
In a tight battle at the top of the Boys A race, Nick Murphy had another impressive race to finish fourth out of 134 racers in 13 minutes, 59 seconds.
Souhegan teammates Anthony Caruso finished 18th (15:02), Jack Chapman 37th (15:53) and Brant Mullens 40th (16:07) rounded out the Sabers’ scoring.
Sam Lowell (51st, 16:38), Alex Rodd (59th, 17:04), Jason Bender (74th, 17:42), Matt Benoit (91st, 18:38) and Sean Lynch (123rd, 21:00) also competed for Souhegan.
Keller Nunley and Cooper Flanders had strong races for the Boys B team.
The Souhegan girls also traveled to Whitefield for the 5 Skate Race Saturday, competing against 19 teams from throughout the state. Team results were unavailable.
Marissa Ashcraft led the Sabers with another strong race, finishing 34th (18:50) out of 132 skiers. Pia Marciano (56th, 20:31), Megan Lynch (89th, 22:17) and Christina Clemence (102nd, 23:16) completed the scoring for the Sabers.
Katherine Benoit finished seventh in the Girls B race, while Abigail Anson also competed for the Sabers.

SWIMMING: SABERS
SWEEP SPARTANS
Souhegan High School recorded a win in every event against Milford at Hampshire Hills. The Sabers girls beat the Spartans 111-56, while the boys won 92-32.
Leading the girls team was Kelsey Hinrichs winning the 200 free and 50 free. The 100 back and 200 IM was taken by Emily Rego. Alyssa Peterson won the 100 butterfly. Olivia Wons won the 100 free. Alisha Meehan won the 400 meter free and Mallory Sullivan took the 100 breast. The Sabers girls won the 200 free, 200 IM and 400 free relays.
Leading the boys team with wins in events was Andy Disco taking first in the 100 fly and 50 free.
Eric Howard won the 100 back and 100 free, Jamie Lutze took the 200 IM and the 400 meter free, Colton Kenny won the 200 free and Mike Rego won the 100 breast. The Sabers boys won the 200 free, 200 IM and 400 free relays.

Milford’s Ben Lambert came out on top in a six-team giant slalom meet at Crotched Mountain.
Souhegan and Hollis/Brookline finished second and third, respectively, in the boys race. Bedford won the team portion with 383 points, followed by Souhegan (365), H/B (341), Hopkinton (318), Con-Val (299) and Milford (280).
Souhegan’s Tucker Brown was the next local finisher behind Lambert in sixth.
H/B’s Ben Currier and Eric LaFrance finished seventh and eighth, respectively, followed by the Souhegan duo of Scott Doyle and John Cici in ninth and 10th, respectively.
ALPINE SKIING: SABERS GIRLS WIN SIX-TEAM MEET
Evelyn French, Mary Leger, Emily Ballantine and Sami Norton finished first, fifth, eighth and 10th, respectively, to lead the Souhegan girls to first place in a six-team giant slalom meet at Crotched Mountain. The Sabers scored 380 points to beat Bedford (376), Hollis/Brookline (331), Con-Val (312), Hopkinton (298) and Milford (155). Milford’s Samantha Guiry finished fourth.

BOYS BASKETBALL:
MILFORD 50, BEDFORD 47
Mike Mitchell scored 10 of his 18 points in the third quarter, but it was the four points he had in the fourth that finished off a three-point win for the Spartans in a Class I road game. Jamie Holder added 10 points and Kevin Cyr had seven for Milford. Tyler Weber led the Bulldogs (7-2) with 16 points and Joseph Maher chipped in with 11 points and 23 rebounds.
Mitchell hit a basket to tie the score at 46-46 with 2:30 to play and added two free throws with 13.8 seconds left to put Milford (8-1) up by three points. The junior point guard scored 10 of his teams 17 points in the third quarter as the Spartans built a 12-point lead
But the Bulldogs cut the lead to seven at the end of the third quarter and scored the first 10 points of the fourth to take a 43-40 lead with 5:29 to play. After a timeout, the Spartans scored 10 of the final 14 points to reclaim the lead. Bedford missed three shots in the final 13.8 seconds, including a 3-pointer by Trevor Glassman that would have tied the game.
BOYS BASKETBALL:
SOUHEGAN 61, H/B 44
Devin Gilligan had 15 points and Ryan Redmond 10 as the visiting Sabers, who led 29-18 at the half, raised their record to 6-3. Trevor Nierendorf led the Cavs, who fell to 3-6, with 17 points while Miles Tobin added 10.
GIRLS BASKETBALL:
SOUHEGAN 64, H/B 61
In a game that went back and forth throughout the fourth quarter, Souhegan sophomore Jane White put the Sabers ahead for good with a basket with 1:37 left, then made two clutch free throw with eight seconds left.
Jackie Jones had 11 of her 16 points in second half Souhegan, who also got 16 points from junior guard Christan Wojtas. White was also in double figures with 12 for the Sabers (8-1). Hollis/Brookline (8-1), which suffered its first loss of the season, had four players in double figures, led by Katie Stopera (16 points).
GIRLS BASKETBALL:
BEDFORD 57,
MILFORD 49 (OT)
Taylor Sacco scored five points in the final minute-plus of regulation to send the game into overtime for the Spartans, but they were outscored 11-3 in the extra period to fall to 1-8 on the year.
Sacco finished with 14 points while Dina Pitsas led the Spartans with 15. Bedford’s Molly McGowan led all scorers with 20, including six in OT.
