Souhegan boys, Milford’s Lambert finish fifth at states
The Souhegan boys Alpine ski team and Milford’s Ben Lambert made an impressive showing at the Division II Alpine State Championships at Waterville Valley on Feb. 9.
In a field of 14 teams, the Souhegan Sabers finished fifth with 616 points behind first-place Kennett (774.5), with Plymouth in second (749.5), Bedford third (637) and in fourth place Hollis/Brookline with 630 points.
Milford (433) came in 11th.
Lambert grabbed fifth place in slalom with a combined two-run time of 68.12.
Top finishers for Souhegan were Tucker Brown 15th in giant slalom (71.5), Alexander Kempf 17th in giant slalom (71.97), Scott Doyle 23rd in giant slalom (74.21) and 20th in slalom (67.61), Mike Barrett in slalom, Matt Comstock 30th in slalom (72.99) and 32nd in giant slalom (77.53), and John Cici 44th in slalom (81.94).
A fifth-place finish in slalom puts Lambert in the Meet of Champions on March 3 at Cannon Mountain.
Skiers who finished in the top 10 for the states qualify for the event.
Souhegan girls fifth at state championships
The Souhegan girls competed in a 14-team meet at the Division II State Championships at Mount Cranmore in North Conway on Feb. 11.
Evelyn French led the Sabers, finishing 10th in both slalom and giant slalom with combined two-run times of 75.75 and 87.74 respectively to help Souhegan grab fifth place.
Other top finishers for Souhegan were Torey Brooks 18th in slalom (85.70), 12th in giant slalom (88.84), Mary Leger 22nd in slalom (88.42), 29th in giant slalom (101.58), Sami Norton 45th in slalom (104.11) and A.J. Newell 41st in giant slalom (107.28).
The Sabers finished with 634 points behind first place Plymouth (757), with Kennett in a close second (754), Hanover (695) in third and Oyster River (638) in fourth.
French’s 10th-place position puts her in the Meet of Champions being held on March 3 at Cannon Mountain.
Skiers who finished in the top 10 for the states qualify for the event.
