CLASS S GIRLS BASKETBALL PRELIMS
NO. 7 NEWMARKET 40, NO. 10 WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 27
A cold shooting night from the floor proved to be too much for the Warriors to overcome as they bowed out of the Class S tournament, losing by 13 to the seventh ranked Mules on Feb. 17.
Despite their poor shooting, the scrappy Warriors (9-10) put up a fight and kep things close but the Mules (14-5) ran the four corners in the fourth quarter and the two teams combined to score just two points in the final frame.
Kaleigh Randlett scored a team-high 10 points for Wilton and Marika Thompson added eight while Emily Barbeau led Newmarket with 10.
Souhegan highlights
BOYS BASKETBALL PELHAM 53, SOUHEGAN 49
Despite a solid effort by Devin Gilligan (19 points), the Sabers fell short on Feb. 19 in Pelham. Ryan Redmond added eight for Souhegan, while Nick Hession and Seth Cordts each had six.
GIRLS BASKETBALL SOUHEGAN 64, MILFORD 41
Jane White scored a game-high 17 points and Jackie Jones added 10 markers to lead the Sabers to a Class I win over the Spartans on Feb. 17.
White made four 3-pointers, including a shot from just inside midcourt to beat the buzzer at the end of the first quarter. Christan Wojtas added nine points to help Souhegan (14-1) to its 14th consecutive win.
Mary Donovan led Milford with 15 points, six of which came from behind the arc, and Dina Pitsas added 14 points for the Spartans (2-13).
Souhegan led by 25 points at halftime, but Milford went on a 12-1 run in the second half to cut the lead to 13 points with 1:26 to play in the third quarter.
But the Sabers responded with a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to put the game away.
