About names ...
Thursday, January 26, 2012
We think the Wilton Main Street Association should hold a contest to select a new name for the Main Street Dummy.
As much fun as people can have with the existing name, (“Have you seen the Main Street Dummy?” “Yeah, he (supply any name you want) just went down the street and got into his car.”), it just doesn’t seem appropriate for what is essentially an historic artifact, even if the one that is now there is not completely original: Recently the “Dummy” was refitted with a globe-style traffic light, a gift from Charles Crawford and Kimball Physics.
It’s a very nice light on a very nice “Dummy” and, as we all know, while “Dummy” as a noun can be, by definition, harmless, we all know how it is generally used.
So, let’s have some fun, under the auspices of the Main Street Association: a contest to rename the ... thing at the end of Main Street.
We don’t know if the association is willing to get involved in this, so we’ll wait to hear from it before we put on a big push for suggestions, but if they are, we know the clever folks in Wilton will come up with some doozies. And, no, we don’t think Main Street Doozy will win, although it does have a certain charm.
We shall let you know what we hear from the association.
