Progress

Continuing efforts on the part of Milford Police Chief Fred Douglas apparently will bear fruit: It is likely that the state Department of Transportation will install two more stop signs at Fitch’s Corner – the intersection of North River, Purgatory and Center roads – and make it a four-way stop area.
Chief Douglas has been pushing for the additional stops because of numerous accidents – many of them serious – and even more near-misses at the intersection, particularly because one of the existing stop signs is impossible to see until one is right on top of it.
The chief has worked closely with DOT to get this accomplished and, he was quick to point out to The Cabinet, DOT has been extremely cooperative during the discussions and clearly receptive to the chief’s concerns.
Good for DOT, good for Chief Douglas. As the chief said in our story last week, safety is the primary concern, as it should be.
With two more stop signs there, everyone who drives through that intersection will be a little safer.
