GOP fun-time
Thursday, February 16, 2012
Admit it: This has been the best GOP primary season since ... since ... ever? It sure beats the heck out of Goldwater-Rockefeller and comparatively, Bush-McCain was a snoozer.
Regardless of who finally gets the nomination, we’re going to look back upon these few months as a Republican fun-fest of almost epic proportions. It was interesting from the start, with so many candidates, but, let’s face it, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum are the guys making it fascinating. If Mitt Romney were just waltzing to the nomination, what fun would that be?
Anyone who loves politics – real politics, not the horrid name-calling in which some people engage because they have no real ideas or counter-ideas to propose – love a race like this. Yes, it’s gotten nasty and that’s too bad, but it has also been about clear differences and real choices for primary voters.
Who is the most conservative conservative? Is Mitt Romney a Massachusetts moderate or a liberal? Newt has called him both. Enjoy this primary battle while you can. The GOP usually doesn’t engage in something this fascinating.
