Wreath fundraiser exceeded expectations
Thursday, January 5, 2012
To the Editor:
On behalf of the Friends of the Wadleigh Memorial Library, we want to thank all of the local businesses, organizations, and individuals that so generously supported our recent fundraiser, Wreaths Around the Wadleigh, by donating unique and beautiful wreaths for the silent auction.
We also want to thank Jean Travelyn and the Milford High School Art Department for turning out an eye-appealing poster in a very short period of time.
The wreaths brought a festive and fun atmosphere to the library this holiday season and the community support was overwhelming. Being the first year, we had hoped to have 25 wreaths donated. In the end, we received 44 wreaths to place into the auction and were able to raise just over $1,000, which far exceeded our initial expectations.
Without the generous support of the community, we could not have had such a successful fundraising event. We plan to make this silent auction an annual event and already have several ideas to make the second annual Wreaths Around the Wadleigh even more successful than this year.
The Friends of the Library is an all-volunteer organization that supports the library’s programming. The Friends cover the cost of many of the library’s annual museum passes, support the Acoustic Café, and other programs as funds allow.
The Friends are always looking for new members who are willing to assist with fundraising efforts. We typically meet once a month for an hour. Please inquire at the library if you have an interest in becoming a Friend.
