New stop signs
Thursday, February 2, 2012
MILFORD – After months of discussion with representatives of the state Department of Transportation, the four-way stop sign at the intersection known as Fitch’s Corner became a reality this week.
Milford Police Chief Fred Douglas had been pushing for the additional two signs – one on the North River Road side leading from Milford, the other on the Center Road sign leading from Lyndeborough – because of numerous serious accidents and even more near misses.
The problem was a stop sign on North River Road coming down from Wilton. It was around a curve and just after a building, so couldn’t be seen until almost the last minute. Drivers unfamiliar with the intersection often either ran the sign or had to brake at the last moment.
A reminder: You must yield to the driver on your right.
