Wednesday, February 8, 2012

MILFORD – A Florida man is in jail after allegedly trying to pass counterfeit bills at the Milford Motel and Xtra-Mart.

Police say German A, Baez, 26, of Longwood, Fla., tried to use three counterfeit $50 bills to pay for a room at the Elm Street motel on Jan. 31 and the next day trying to buy a $3 lottery ticket with a counterfeit $20 at the Xtra-Mart.

According to court papers, the convenience store clerk was suspicious of the $20 and put it under a black light to confirm it was a fake. A motel employee took one of the $50 bills to a credit union where it too was identified as counterfeit.

Baez was arrested after a Nashua homeless shelter called police to say that he, a woman and a child were on their way to stay in the shelter for the night.

On Jan. 27. Baez was charged with criminal mischief after police say he damaged a cell phone and a laptop of his female companion and also with violating a protective order and stalking the same woman.

Baez is being held in the Hillsborough County House of Corrections on $25,000 cash bail awaiting a Feb. 13 court hearing.
