Board debates repairs
Thursday, February 16, 2012
LYNDEBOROUGH – At the request of the Board of Selectmen, Administrator Burton Reynolds and local contractor Walter Holt inspected the garage on Center Road acquired last year by the town for nonpayment of taxes. They determined that the building can be made usable for storage. The septic system, however, has failed.
The one-acre property includes a small house which will be burned by the Fire Department as a training exercise.
In other business at its Feb. 2, the board discussed painting Town Hall and at least two sides of Citizens Hall. While Road Agent Kent Perry has contracted to use men from the state Corrections Department for the work, they are limited by law to ground level. Scaffolding will be required to paint the upper portions of the buildings.
Reynolds also suggested using non-lapsing funds for a short-term project, rather than setting up a capital reserve fund. Such funds can be used for up to five years, he said.
