Sonora resident Michael Evans died Wednesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 57. Born in Louisville, Ky., to Thomas and Hazel Evans, he was the president responsible for U.S. operation for Sortex for 15 years. He lived in Sonora for 5 years. He was a member of St. James Anglican Church, and volunteered for St. James’ Food Ministry and St. Patrick’s Breakfast Ministry. He enjoyed hiking and reading. Mr. Evans is survived by his ex-wife, Mary Evans, of Tracy; sons, Benjamin Evans, of Tracy, and Scott Evans, of Durham, N.C.; sister, Wanda Evans, of St. Paul, Minn.; mother, Hazel Evans, of St. Paul, Minn.; and grandson, Ryder Kessell, of Sonora. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Evans. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Nov. 29 at the St. James Anglican Church, Sonora. Donations can be made to the St. James Angelican Church’s Food Ministry, P.O. Box 1145, Sonora, CA 95370, or the St. Patrick’s Food Pantry Program, 116 W. Bradford St., Sonora, CA 95370. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
