High School Results
MILFORD
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Dec. 13: Milford 42, Con-Val 31
The Spartans took their season opener thanks to the play of Dina and Adelle Pitsas. Dina Pitsas collected 17 points with 22 rebounds while Adelle Pitsas had six points and nine steals. Milford jumped out to a 12-2 first quarter lead and never looked back.
SWIMMING
Dec. 10: Milford boys, girls win 2 of 3 at quad-meet
The Spartans girls used a first-place showing from their 4x100 freestyle relay team of Ellie Halstead, Sara Halstead, Kaitlyn McManus and KaJay Rooke (4 minutes, 37.61 seconds) to pick up a pair of wins over Mascenic 113-18 and Conant 82-79.
Despite the strong relay win, Milford did lose to Alvirne 112-57.
Individually, McManus won the 100 freestyle (59.49) and 200 freestyle (2:09.60) to qualify for states in both events, while Sarah Halstead also qualified for states with a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:09.80).
In boys action, the Spartans beat Conant 93-27 and Mascenic 83-46, but lost to Alvirne 81-65.
Peter Bussiere qualified for states with a win in the 100 butterfly (1:03.89), while teammates Jack Betelak (50 free, 25.73) and Adam Magri (200 free, 2:16.67) also won individual events.
WRESTLING
Dec. 7: Milford 46, Winnacunnet 22
Tyler Keating got the Spartans rolling with a pin victory at 195 pounds. Joe Albina (170), Thomas Scannell (126), Andrew Bellantoni (285) and Jordan Gaudette (220) also recorded pins for Milford.
Dec. 10: Milford 58, Campbell 9
Spartan J.T. Bellantoni and Cougar Jack Tremblay battled in the 106-pound match, putting on a show for those traveling to Litchfield for Milford’s 58-9 dual meet win over Campbell.
Bellantoni recorded a 19-11 major decision win in that match. At 138, Milford’s Caleb Wright came out on top in a tough match against Keegan Tanguay. Wright eventually locked down a third-period pin, while teammate Rueben Carson pulled out a tight 11-10 win over Richard Baril at 120.
Picking up wins for the host Cougars were Benjamin Billings with a 10-5 decision at 126 and Conor Douglas with a 33-second first-period pin at 145.
SOUHEGAN
BOYS HOCKEY
Dec. 12: Souhegan 3, John Stark/Hopkinton 1
Stevie Upton had two goals and an assist as the Sabers opened the Division III season with a win over the Generals. Mike Hayden added a goal and an assist, while Ben Ehrlich and Matt Wilson also had assists for Souhegan.
Ryan Peterson stopped 15 shots for the Sabers, while Upton scored both his goals in the second period to put Souhegan up 3-0 after 30 minutes. Nick Saball scored in the third period for John Stark/Hopkinton.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Dec. 10: Berlin/Gorham 5, Souhegan 1
The Sabers came up four goals short in their season opener on the road, falling to a combined Berlin/Gorham team.
SWIMMING
Dec. 9: Girls sweep first meet
The Souhegan girls swept a four-team meet to open the season, beating Bishop Guertin (98-81), Nashua South (113-54), Monadnock (113-44) and Keene (126-46).
The Sabers were led by Jamie Freud and Olivia Wons, with win by Freud in the 50 free and 500 free while Wons took first in the 200 IM and third in the 50 free. They also teamed up in the 200 medley relay with Shannon Disco and Christine Black to finish first, and also won the 400 free relay with Alicia Meehan and Taylor Studley.
Christine Black won the 100 breaststroke and was second in the 500 free. Second-place finishers were Margaret Dean (100 butterfly), Kaityln Capprini (100 free) and Emily Rego (100 back), while third-place finishers were Ali Mensh (100 back) and Taylor Studley (200 free).
The Saber boys picked up wins over Keene (80-48), Nashua South (92-21) and Monadnock (92-17), but lost to Bishop Guertin (131-46).
Leading the boys was Tyler Howard (second in the 100 butterfly and 100 back), Mike Rego (second in the 100 breast, third in the 50 free). Bobby Graham took second in the 100 free while Jamie Lutze was second in the 500 free and the 200
Medly relays of Graham, Lutze, Howard and Rego took second, while the 400 free relay of Lutze, Howard, Rego and Alex Bedard finished second as well.
WRESTLING
Dec. 7: Sabers drop both ends of tri-meet
Despite a strong showing by junior Cameron Crook – two pins on the evening – Souhegan came up on the short end of its tri-meet in Windham. The Sabers lost to Campbell 46-27 and host Windham 51-30.
Also racking up pins for the Sabers were James Ewing, John Hopfenspirger, Caleb Jackson and Mitchell Illaqua.
