High School Wrapup
MILFORD
BOYS BASKETBALL
Jan. 19: Milford 67, Sanborn 51
Logan Barlow scored a game-high 14 points, while teammate Nick Simo added 11 of his own to lead the Spartans to a road win over Sanborn Regional in Kingston.
Evan Perron and Ben Smith added nine points each for the winners.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Jan. 20: Milford 51, Sanborn 13
Dina Pitsas exploded for 22 points as the Spartans cruised to an easy victory. Milford is now 3-6.
Jan. 24: Hollis Brookline 41, Milford 26
Ellie Flaum had 15 points and Katie Stopera added eight as the Cavaliers stayed unbeaten at 9-0, jumping out to an 11-1 lead.
Dina Pitsas led Milford (3-7) with 17 points while Bri Hoffman added six.
TRACK
Jan. 23: Qualifier meet
In the boys morning session at the University of New Hampshire on Sunday, Souhegan’s Chris Chininis qualified in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.60, finishing third overall. He was also fourth in the long jump at 19 feet, 5.75 inches. Bert Deforest won the 300 meters in 1:29.50.
Jacob Kittredge was second in the 1,000 meters in 2:38.40 while Tanner Kent (2:39.40) and Nathan Kittredge (2:39.70) finished fourth and fifth. Souhegan won the 4x160 relay in 1:17.10. and was second in the 4x400 relay in 3:40.70.
Souhegan’s Andi Coates won the high jump (6-2), topping Milford’s Parker Lyttle and Jarad Asselin (both 6-0). Souhegan’s Dennis Elverson was third in the 300-meter dash in 38.40. Eli Moskowitz was second in the 1,500 meters in (4:17.20). Ryan Hinrichs was third in the 3,000 meters in 9:32.10
For the girls, Milford’s Rachel White won the long jump (15-07.50). White (7.30) and Jessica Krafft (7.70) finished fourth and fifth in the 55-meter dash with both qualifying. Souhegan’s Angela Blume was fourth in the 1,000 meters in 3:18.40.
In the 1,500 meters, Hollis Brookline’s Meghan Philpot won in 4:57.60 while teammate Emma Newton took second in 5:00.40. Emily Benz was fifth in 5:21.40. Souhegan’s Sarah Hurd tied for third in the high jump (4-10.00). Milford’s Morgan Andrews was third in the shot put at 32-08.25.
WRESTLING
Jan. 18: Milford 47, Con-Val 28
A big win at 126 pounds from Tom Scannell helped keep the Spartans unbeaten in dual meets against in-state opponents.
Posting pin victories for Milford were Joe Albina, Andrew Myers, Ruben Carson and Devin Dolliver. Other Spartans winners were J.T. Bellantoni, Andrew Bellantoni and Joe Pelliteri.
SOUHEGAN
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Jan. 18: Hollis Brookline 59, Souhegan 46
The Cavaliers improved to 8-0 in Division II by knocking off the defending champs on their home court. Katie Stopera scored a game-high 23 points for HB while Kelsey Berry and Olivia Gillis each added 15 points. The Cavs led by as many as 13 in the first half but the Sabers cut the lead to four twice in the third quarter. But a 3 by Berry to end the third and layups by Rachel King and Berry to open the fourth put HB up by 11 and Souhegan could get no closer than seven the rest of the way.
Jane White led the Sabers (4-3) with 18 points while Ceara McNamara added 15.
Jan. 20: Souhegan 49, Portsmouth 41
The Sabers opened up a 13 point lead after the first quarter and held on to beat Portsmouth in a close game. Jane White led all scorers with 24 points for Souhegan. Ashley Tighe and Mickenzie Larivee each had six points in the win. The Sabers are now 5-3.
Jan. 24: Souhegan 73, Goffstown 47
The Sabers (6-3) took a 21-7 first quarter lead and never looked back. Jane White had 22 points while Tori Forrest added 12 for the locals.
BOYS HOCKEY
Jan. 21: Hollis Brookline 8, Souhegan 5
Griffin Brown and Jack Collins each had two goals to help the Cavaliers hand Souhegan its first Division III loss of the season.
Jake Hahnl made 30 saves in net for HB (6-3) while Honza Havlena (two assists), Ian Rowe (assist) and Cam Ricard also had a goal apiece.
Stevie Upton led the Sabers (7-1-1) with two goals and two assists while Conor Casey had a goal and three assists and Ben Ehrlich added three helpers. Mike Hayden and Joe Stacy also scored for Souhegan while goalie Ryan Peterson made 21 saves.
Both teams are back on the ice on Wednesday, as HB travels to face John Stark-Hopkinton and Souhegan heads out to take on Pelham-Windham.
SWIMMING
Jan. 20: Souhegan sweeps Milford
The Souhegan girls won all but two events in a 114-38 win while the boys routed Milford 104-41, winning all of their events.
Leading the Saber girls team was Taylor Studley winning the 100 free and 50 free, while Olivia Wons captured the 100 back and 200 free. Other individual Saber winners were Shannon Disco (100 fly), and Jamie Freud (400 meter free). The Saber girls won the 200 free, 200 IM and 400 Free Relays as well.
For Milford, Kaitlyn McManus took the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke.
Leading the Souhegan boys were Eric Howard (100 back and 400 meter free), Tyler Howard (100 free and 200 meter free), Jamie Lutze (100 fly and 200 IM). Also winning their events was Bobby Graham in the 50 free and Michael Rego in the 100 breast. Souhegan took the 200 free, 200 IM and 400 free relays as well.
Leading the way for the Spartans with second place finishes were Jack Betelak (200 free), Josh Hamel (50 free) and Peter Bussiere (100 butterfly).
