HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS
MILFORD
BOYS BASKETBALL
Feb. 7: Bedford 63, Milford 42
The Bulldogs ran away with the game in the middle two quarters, outscoring Milford 41-21 during that time. The Spartans’ Jovi Philbrick and Logan Barlow were both the game’s high scorers with 11 points, but Bedford got scoring from 12 different players in a balanced attack. Jared Lakin and Richie Moore added six and five points for the Spartans (4-9), respectively.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Feb. 7: Bedford 36, Milford 17
Dina Pitsas scored 10 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Spartans fell to 4-10 in Division II. Brianna Hoffman added four points for Milford, while Bedford got eight points from Ashley Abad.
WRESTLING
Feb. 1: Milford 48, Pelham 21
An impressive pin victory from Scott Dannewitz at 160 pounds helped propel the Spartans to their 16th dual meet victory in 19 matches. Other pin winners for Milford were Thomas Scannell at 126, Joe Pellitteri at 145, Joe Albina at 170 and Andrew Myers at 182.
Feb. 4: Milford goes 2-1
The Spartans picked up a big win over Salem, 30-23, beat Bishop Guertin 36-25, but dropped a 44-36 decision to Londonderry.
Joe Albina, Milford’s 160-pounder, won all three of his matches by pin. Connor Borne picked up a big win over Salem at 152. Double winners for Milford included Jordan Gaudette at 220 and Dominic Nguyen at 113.
SOUHEGAN
BOYS BASKETBALL
Feb. 1: Souhegan 58, Lebanon 49
Brandon Len scored a game-high 20 points to help the Sabers improve to 9-1 in Division II. Len was 6 for 8 from the line in the final three minutes and Souhegan was 9 of 12 as a team down the stretch to hang on for the win.
Zack Simmonds added 11 points while Shaun McKenna chipped in eight. Lebanon (5-5) got 17 points from Mark Davidson.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Feb. 1: Lebanon 62, Souhegan 56
In a rematch of last year’s Division I final, Lebanon stayed unbeaten, outscoring Souhegan 20-4 from the foul line.
The Sabers led 31-29 at halftime, but the Raiders, now 11-0, used an 8-0 run in the third quarter to take the lead and never gave it up. Jane White led Souhegan with 21 points, including three 3-pointers. Mickenzie Larivee added 18 for the Sabers, now 7-4.
BOYS HOCKEY
Feb. 4: Souhegan 10, Manchester West 1
The Sabers Joe Stacy scored three goals as Souhegan cruised to victory over West. Stevie Upton and Mike Hayden each had two goals in the win. Patrick Maguire, Connor Casey and Brendon Dix each tallied a goal for the Sabers. Ryan Peterson earned the win between the pipes.
NORDIC SKIING
Feb. 4: Souhegan hosts sprint race
The Sabers hosted the Souhegan Invitational Legacy Spring Race, but due to a lack of snow, the meet was moved from Bedford to Plymouth. Souhegan’s Jason Bender, Jack Lowell and Sam saunders advanced to the second round of races, and Bender reached the boys final race. For the girls, Souhegan’s Pia Marciano, Hannah Culver,
Katherine Benoit, Jamie Wallisch, Abigail Anson, Christina Clemence and Lyndsey Hagen all competed in the races, with Marciano reach the final. Wilton-Lyndeborough’s Jane Edwards and Maggie Zavgren also competed in the race.
WRESTLING
Feb. 1: Goffstown 42, Souhegan 27
Mitchell Illacqua (113 pounds), Conner Chareth (120) and Cam Crook (220) all recorded wins via the pin for the Sabers, but it wasn’t enough in a loss to the Grizzlies.
Also recording a win in defeat was James Ewing, who pulled out a 4-3 decision at 182 for Souhegan.
