BASEBALL

Lucas Olen leads Post 54 over Derry

Bedford starter Lucas Olen pitched a complete game to lead Bedford Post 54 to an 8-2 win over Derry Post 9.

Olen struck out nine Derry batters while only walking one and scattering nine hits over nine innings. Bedford’s 14-hit attack was led by Mike Laflamme, Andrew Klimm, Matt Woodmansee and Chase DiStasio, who all had multiple-hit games.

Brendan Cosgrove added two RBIs for Bedford with a hit and a sacrifice fly. Bedford shortstop Woodmansee and second baseman Zach Husband turned three double plays.

Derry starter PJ Singster took the loss for Derry. Connor Brill and Josh Luciano had two hits each for Derry.

Bedford Post 54 outslugged Lebanon 13-10 at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium.

Bedford got untracked with a two-run home run by Brendan Cosgrove in the third inning. Mike Laflamme (two doubles, two RBIs), Zach Husband (four hits, four RBIs), Nate Harrington (two hits, two RBIs) and Andrew Klimm (three hits, three runs) paced the Bedford offense.

Tom Hudon pitched a strong four innings in relief of starter Spencer Damon, who left after three with a leg cramp. Matt Woodmansee allowed one earned run in the final two innings and was credited with the win.

GOLF

Carbonneau Cup Charity Tournament on July 30

The Bedford Men’s Club will host the 2010 Carbonneau Cup Charity Golf Tournament on Friday, July 30 at 8:30 a.m. at Stonebridge Country Club in Goffstown. The event will include a full scramble followed by a steak-tip lunch and awards ceremony. All proceeds will be used to support the Men’s Club’s charitable programs in Bedford. CLINICS

Speed, power, injury prevention seminar

A seminar on “Speed, Power Development and Injury Prevention for Today’s Student Athletes” will be at 6:30 p.m. July 15 in the Bedford High School theater.

The seminar will be presented by John Krasinski, head strength and conditioning coach at the University of California. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for students. A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Bedford High weight room. Krasinski has 18 years of coaching experience in strength and conditioning at the major college level. In addition to California, he has coached at Oregon, Colorado State, Rutgers, Northern Arizona and Montana State.

Krasinski has trained more than 100 players who have gone on to the NFL, including Tully Banta-Cain, New England; Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay; Marshawn Lynch, Buffalo; DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia; Nnamdi Asomugha, Oakland; Brandon Mebane, Seattle; Kyle Boller, Arizona; and 2010 first-round picks Tyson Alualu, Jacksonville, and Jahvid Best, Detroit.

Fall Showcase League tryouts in August

The Fall Showcase Softball League is holding tryouts looking for New Hampshire’s top 48 high school softball players. All games will be played on college field’s in the Northeast. BG hoop camp starts Aug. 2

Bishop Guertin High School will host a basketball instructional school for boys and girls ages 9-13 the week of Aug. 2-6 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily. The school places emphasis on building the fundamental skills of each camper and to accomplish this in an enjoyable and pressure-free environment.

FIELD HOCKEY

Shoot for the Stars camp starts July 12

The annual Astros Shoot for the Stars field hockey camp will run the weeks of July 12 and July 19 from 8 a.m.-noon at Rider field in Derry from Monday through Friday.

Beginners to high school varsity players are welcome from grades 4-12. The cost is $100 for one week and $175 for two weeks and includes insurance, camper pack and instruction.
