Time to party
Friday, September 14, 2012
It’s time for Cow Patty Bingo, live music and homemade apple pie. Yes, that means Hollis Old Home Days is here.
Organizers have been working all year to bring an array of activities, musicians, dancers and, of course, spectacular fireworks to the community – and it’s sure to be crowd pleaser.
The event kicks off Friday at 5 p.m. at Nichols Field with midway rides and tethered hot-air balloon rides, and a teen dance at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, there’s a full schedule of entertainment for all ages, plus rug hooking and spinning demonstrations, an art exhibit by the Hollis Art Society, a petting zoo and more. The list goes on, but we don’t want to ruin any surprises.
Nichols Field will be the place this weekend for a great family activity. And, coming out to take part in all the fun is a wonderful way to show your appreciation for all the volunteers’ hard work.
We hope a lot of bakers will submit their entries to the Hollis Woman’s Club’s annual apple pie contest.
Entries are due at the Woman’s Club table by 11 a.m. Saturday. Bakers will vie for ribbons in three entry divisions: Children, ages 12 and older; students ages 13-21; and adults 22 and older. But, please, no mixes; home-baked pies are a must to wow the judges.
Though it happens in Hollis, the public is invited. Feel free to bring friends and any out-of-town visitors with you. What better way to show off the Hollis community?
