Brookline Cares makes a difference

Friday, January 29, 2010

To the Editor:

I would like to thank all of the individuals and organizations who made Brookline Cares such a huge success in 2009. Thanks to all of you, we were able to help about 18 families to have a happier Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday.

It has been a very difficult year for many in our midst, with not much sign of things getting better quickly. Your generosity was truly overwhelming. We provided breakfast, lunch and dinner for Thanksgiving and Christmas days, with many leftovers, and helped Santa to fulfill his wish lists.

I could not possibly name all of the individuals and families who helped out so graciously. Donations ranged from adoptions of entire families to a child who donated his $1.25 allowance.

At the risk of forgetting someone, I would like to thank the businesses and organizations that stepped forward to contribute – Absolute Mechanical Systems, the Post Office, the Lions Club, the Women’s Club, Webelo Den 7, the Huskies, the Icebreakers, the Brookline Community Church and the Brookline Library for their generous contributions.

Thank you to Celia and the Brookline Police Department for once again coordinating a very successful toy drive and giving so generously to the children of Brookline.

We will be continuing the effort to help the needy in our community under the banner “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.” Please join us for Corned Beef and Comedy on March 20, at the Brookline Event Center, with all proceeds to go to the such basic requirements as food, shelter and heat for those in need. Please see www.brooklinefd.com/events for more information.
