Choose Simons for school board
Friday, March 5, 2010
To the Editor:
Election Day for Hollis town candidates is Tuesday, March 9, and I will be voting for Steve Simons for Hollis co-op school board member. Steve, an experienced and dedicated member of the present co-op board, has served for 12 consecutive years.
As a former school board member, I have worked with Steve and know him as a dedicated and open-minded decision maker. He recognizes the important balance between funding a top-notch public education and consideration for the people who pay for it: the taxpayer. Steve also commits the time needed to attend and work on all the projects and endless details through completion of the issue.
In addition to monthly board meetings, he has given countless of hours to subcommittees, including contract negotiation, building committees and selection of administrators. (He knows the buildings from the ground up, knows the teachers and the student populations. He knows the playing fields and has helped to plan them. He knows the landscape and has helped to plant the trees. He knows the signage, the lunch time crowding and average SAT scores …) I can continue about Steve’s contributions to the co-op but I hope my point is made.
Our high school and middle school are nationally recognized and regarded as one of the best in the state. This consistent level of quality requires many dedicated people. Steve has been and will continue to be a strong member of that team responsible for keeping our educational standards high.
